Our First days in Nursery.
We have been exploring our new nursery environment and making new friends.
This week has been 'Writing Week' at Merritts Brook. It all began with a mysterious golden, shiny door appearing in our playground. What was it all about? Nursery, just like the rest of the school went on an adventure to visit the door. We knocked, no one answered! We tried the handle and......it opened! We walked through, some of us saw 'Dinosaurs, Super-hero's, Fairies, Ponies, Sheep, Frogs, Magic Sparkles and a Robin! What fantastic imaginations Nursery have!
The door inspired us to make lots of marks about what we saw and thought might be through the door!
Therefore, this week in Nursery we have been making lots of marks. We have been mark making in sand, foam, glitter, oats, on paper, with paint, pens, chalk and pencils.. We have been learning to talk about the marks we make and think about how we hold our pencil.
My Family Snack Morning
We invited our families in to nursery to enjoy a Family Snack Morning together. We shared pictures of our family, made pictures to go in to our nursery Family Snack Morning book and we shared stories. We also taught our families how to do The Skeleton dance- everyone joined in. We had so much fun learning together!
This week in Nursery we have been thinking about being super safe inside and outside of our Nursery Classroom.
We have been exploring Fire and Fireworks. We dressed up as Fire fighters and answered a 999 call. We also used scissors and other tools safely to make a firework.
We also thought about Road Safety and became 'Super Safe' at crossing the road. We have to remember to: 'STOP,LOOK,LISTEN and THINK.'
Look at us in a action:
Early Years Christmas Reading Brunch.
We welcomed lots of friends and families to our Christmas Reading Brunch. Mrs Johnson read us all a story about Mog and his Christmas Calamity. We then shared lots of lovely stories, ate festive treats and finished off the morning by singing some Christmas songs together.
Parent Christmas Trip to Dudley Zoo and Castle
We visited Dudley Zoo and Castle with our families. We travelled on a coach, it was so exciting! When we arrived we visited Santa, saw a Magical Puppet Show and all of the animals in their homes. We had a magical time together!
Dipsy the Dinosaur arrived in Nursery!
The Mystery Postman delivered a surprise to Nursery, it was an egg! What was inside? We had a look - it was a Dinosaur! He is called Dipsy and we have to look after him until his family can find him and take him back home to Dino World.
We have made a Dino World for Dipsy to live in and binoculars to look out for his family.
We painted Dinosaurs and explored footprints in our outdoor area.
We have also been planting some food in out outdoor garden to grow for when the Dinosaurs arrive.
We are working hard to find out: Which was the Biggest Dinosaur?
Colour Potion Laboratory
The children have been colour explorers in our new role play area. We have been mixing colour potions together to create a Magical Potion !!!
We have to wear our lab coats and glasses when mixing our potions.
We celebrated 'World book day' in Nursery.
We dressed up as our favourite book characters, even the grown ups!
We listened to lots of stories.
Easter Craft Morning.
We had a really lovely morning in Nursery when so many of our families came to join in with our Easter crafts. We iced cakes, made rabbit masks, Easter cards, collaged eggs, went on an Easter egg number hunt and sang Easter songs. Our families even joined in with the Easter chick actions, they were fantastic!!!
The Mystery Postman delivered a Back pack to Nursery. It belongs to an explorer. We found binoculars, a compass, a flask, a map, photographs, food, a camera and a water bottle inside.
Therefore, we decided to become explorers in Nursery too!
A Nursery Campsite!
Working together, we researched, planned, resourced and made our own camp site. These were all of the Nursery children's ideas!
We went on a Bear Hunt!
As explorers we went on our own Bear Hunt in Nursery. Through the swishy swashy, grass, splashy, sploshy river, squelching mud, swirling snowstorm, deep dark forest until we found a deep, dark cave. There was a Bear!!!!
We decided that: "We're not going on a Bear Hunt again!"
The Parents came on a Bear Hunt too!
To celebrate our learning, we invited our families to come and explore the outdoor area. We went on a Bear Hunt and found...A BEAR!!!!!!
Why is water wet?
The Mystery Postman delivered a new surprise package. Silvermist, The Water Fairy sent it to us to help us with our learning about water. We have been exploring water, how it freezes, moves, what we use it for and who lives in it. We have also been learning a fantastic Pirate song with Mrs Hughes!
Happy Birthday to the Queen!
We came dressed in red, white and blue to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday. The children planned the activities themselves. Lydia suggested making The Queen some flowers, so we did! We made her a beautiful bouquet of flowers. We also wanted a Tea Party. We iced fairy cakes in red, white and blue and ate them at snack time. We also learnt how to wave like the Queen and sang her a big "Happy Birthday to you!" We had a lovely morning.
The Circus came to Merritts Brook
We had, 'Steve and Ben from Circus in to School' come to visit us in the Early Years to teach us Circus Skills. It was so exciting! We learned how to juggle, balance, twirl ribbons and scarves. We all listen so well and followed tricky instructions. The teachers were so proud!
