Paired Reading

In Year One, one of the main targets for Reading is to be able to decode words using segmenting and blending skills. The children are required to read phonetically decodable books and build up their fluency by rehearsing their reading skills. In order to support children in doing this, they are paired up to read their given book and take turns teaching, supporting and listening to their partner read each day. We have found that this works really well in boosting their confidence when reading aloud and supports their fluency for reading.
