Year 2 2016/2017

Hello, welcome to our page for our new class 2S. My name is Mrs Shazadi and our lovely teaching assistant is Mrs Floyd, she's looking forward to getting to know all the lovely children in year 2. Elf on the shelf:

 

On Thursday 1st December 2016, Father Christmas sent one of his elves to watch over Year 2. Each night he rings Father Christmas to report on Year 2's behaviour. Have they been making right choices? Each morning the children find the elf in strange places. Today he had been reading the 'Gorilla' story and watched all the children writing brilliant adventure stories. What mischief will we encounter?.......

This week the children have been learning about families. We looked at what makes a family and created a family tree looking at pictures children brought in from home of their family. Children presented a fantastic performance in assembly about the things they do at home to help their family, how they spend time together and different celebrations they take part in. During the end of the presentation children sang a song 'we are family' with family photos in the background. Later that day they presented this to their family. Our families joined in with the singing. Children also enjoyed spending time with their families taking part in team games and activities. What a brilliant week!

Writing week: To start our writing week the children received a letter from Captain Blackbeared. Captain Blackbeard wrote to year 2 asking them to continue his treasure chest journey because he had been captured. He left some pirate clues around school which led to the treasure chest. We then explored all the items in the chest.

Pirate Peggy is Mrs Wright great great Grandmother and had come to Merritts Brooke looking for her lost treasure, which was left behind by pirate Blackbeard on Monday morning. The children were so excited to ask her lots of questions which they had thoughtfully thought of the day before.
