Year 5 2015/2016

Welcome to Year 5

The year began with 5H meeting their new class pets - crickets.  We enjoy watching them in their tank, feeding them fruit and asking lots of questions about them.  I wonder what weird and wonderful creatures we might meet next?

We have enjoyed getting to know each other and talking about our expectations for this year.

Today we measured our hands, feet and height; took pictures of ourselves and sealed them away in a time capsule.  On the last day of the year we are going to 'dig it up' and re-measure ourselves to see how much we've grown and changed in just one year.

As part of our lessons on 3D shapes we have constructed our own shapes and identified the faces, edges and vertices.
We have had a fantastic week this week.  A mysterious golden door appeared in the playground.  After exploring it, we acted out possible scenarios and created our own adventures; before planning and writing them.

Thank you to all the parents / family who joined us for our workshop this week.  There was a lovely atmosphere in the room and it was great to see you having as much fun as the children.

Today we learnt all about healthy living and tested our knowledge of delicious fruit before making our own smoothies - using pedal power.  It was great fun.

We had an amazing workshop today from a third year student at Birmingham University.  She taught us some amazing facts about our solar system.

Today our parents joined us for a fun reading breakfast.  We used our inference and deduction skills and ate lots of yummy croissant.

Pharaohs Parent Workshop

We enjoyed working with our parents to make an Egyptian Sarcophogus and they quite liked getting messy too.

Science Experiments

In science this week, we collected samples from around the school building.  We then swabbed our samples across agar jelly in a petri dish and left them to see what developed.  You will never guess which samples led to the best bacteria.

Today we made posies and rats with our parents - do you know how they are both linked to the plague?
